Gordes, one of the loveliest hilltop villages in France, has inspired many famous artists and painters with its astounding beauty. Many of France’s most beautiful villages are within easy reach, including St-Rémy-de-Provence, Les-Baux-de-Provence, and Maussane (all 35 km away). Aix-en-Provence is to the south (50 km), and the Côtes-du-Rhône wine-producing villages are to the north. L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, famous for its antiques dealers and open-air market, is a 20-minute drive. You can travel by TGV train from Avignon, just 40 minutes away.

This charming stone house is nestled in the heart of the Luberon, between Avignon and Apt. From the house, you can walk to the historic centre of Gordes (5 min) where you will find many delightful shops and restaurants. Walk to the market, or to get your morning croissants and newspaper; or enjoy a leisurely stroll through the beautiful countryside.

Two acres of beautiful grounds surround the house, ensuring peacefulness and privacy. Enclosed by typical Gordes stone walls, the house is built of local stone with Roman tiles. It has been remodelled, decorated and furnished in a very elegant style with antiques, paintings, and lovely objects. The garden, terrace and all of the rooms have a panoramic southern view facing the Luberon mountain range. The house is very bright with its southern exposure, and light-colored stone floors give the house a very open, airy feeling.

The entrance leads to a sitting room, a library, and a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher and washing machine. There is a lovely dining room with large glass doors that can be left open all summer – the perfect place to enjoy a meal while savouring the magnificent view – and leads to a terrace with a remote controlled awning so you can dine outdoors, even in full sun.The house is furnished with satellite TV, CD, DVD, and a fax machine.

The master bedroom is air-conditioned and has a double bed, dressing room, and bathroom with a shower. A loft above the bedroom has a desk with internet access. The second bedroom has a double bed with toilet and bath.

The grounds surrounding the house are filled with trees and flowers of the region. A salt-water swimming pool (10m x 5m) is surrounded by stone, with teak benches.

This charming stone house is perfect for a romantic couple (or two couples) wanting to stay in the countryside, away from traffic and noise, but within walking distance of a village. The house is available May through September. Children are not permitted at the Little Stone House.
