The Cannaregio sestiere of Central Venice is a lively district with
a very authentic Venetian atmosphere. Visit the Church of San Giobbe, decorated
with the works of Tuscan artists like Luca della Robbia, and the Ca' d'Oro, considered
to be the most striking example of Venetian Gothic architecture. At the heart
of Cannaregio is the Ghetto, where the entire Jewish population of Venice was
required to live from sunset to sunrise for almost three hundred years. Visit
the beach or the islands of Murano, Burano, Torcello, and San Michele. Explore
one of the world's most unique cities on foot or by vaporetto (Venetian
water bus). It stops just across the canal from the apartment, putting San Marco
and all of the many attractions of Venice at your doorstep. You will feel like a
native as you shop in open-air markets and dine in small local restaurants. The train station is a ten minute walk or ride, and there are food shops, coffee
bars, a post office and a variety of restaurants within five minutes' walk.
