When is the best time of year to visit the Veneto?

Venice is amazing any time of the year, but if you want to avoid the big crowds, the best time to visit the Veneto is from September to November. The weather is cooler then, but you'll enjoy a more peaceful atmosphere. Just be aware that flooding, known as Acqua alta, can happen in the winter months. In spring, the weather is warm and sunny, making it a great time to visit. Summer is the busiest season, with lots of tourists, just like in February during the famous Carnival. These times are also the most lively, with many cultural events offering something for everyone to enjoy.

Culinary delights from Veneto

Enjoy delicious food and dine at one of the many restaurants with amazing views over the Grand Canal or the Giudecca Canal. Venice is known for its fresh lobster and squid ink spaghetti, so be sure to try these local dishes.

To feel like a true Venetian, try a cicchetto, which is a small, tasty snack similar to tapas. These are usually paired with a glass or bottle of local wine. If you’re into drinks, don’t miss trying a Spritz, Venice's most popular drink made from wine, seltzer, and liqueur.

Wine lovers will be happy to know that Veneto is the largest DOC wine producer in Italy. You can try local wines like the red Valpolicella or the white Soave or Verduzzo.

For a more authentic experience, visit the Rialto fish market. It has a huge variety of fish and shellfish, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. The market is located just past the Rialto Bridge.
