Taormina sits two hundred metres above the Sicilian sea with Mount Etna in view from most of its terraces, and Villa Diffusa is built across the cliff edge in the way the town requires: a series of connected suites rather than a single contiguous house. Eight queen bedrooms across three levels, each with its own bath, opening onto either a private or a shared terrace, with the same sea view from most. The layout suits a group of couples comfortable with separate-but-close quarters more than it suits a single family. Taormina town is a walk uphill or a five-minute taxi; the Greek theatre, built in the third century BC and still used for summer concerts, is the landmark you can see from the property. Etna is an hour by car for the kind of day-trip Sicily was made for. The villa is most rewarding from mid-May to early October, when the terraces can be lived in.
