About This Villa

Sixty acres of parkland fan out from a three-storey 1800s farmhouse just outside Montepulciano, in the open country of the Val d'Orcia. The Renaissance bones of the building have been kept honest, marble fireplaces, cross-vaulted ground floors, wide plank floors above, with kitchens and baths modernised without losing the patina. A pool sits in the formal garden behind the house, screened from the road by a line of cypresses. The setting is the Tuscany people came for, the clay hills, the cypress avenues, the chapels in the middle of a field, all within an easy drive. The 1800s detailing means the rooms are smaller and more layered than a modern build, with character on every staircase. The property works best for a group that wants a house that feels lived-in rather than staged, and for travellers who plan to use the villa as a base rather than a hotel.

1 bedroom with French size bed, private bathroom with shower and tub

Besides the impeccably manicured gardens surrounding the property, this luxury villa features also great outdoor entertainment areas, including a spacious covered gazebo equipped for your meal al fresco or afternoon tea.

The pool section of the park is furnished with hotel-quality facilities such as bar area, a shaded cabana, a romantic pergola protecting a large day bed from the sun, and comfortable chaise lounges around the generous swimming pool.

The mature lush vegetation provides maximum privacy to the guests while offering many paved trails for relaxing strolls among nature.

A private after-hours Duomo visit

The cathedral floor uncovered (mid-August through mid-October), the Piccolomini Library frescoes, the Pisano pulpit — all to yourself with a guide.

Forty-five minutes south. Pienza for pecorino, Montalcino for Brunello, the cypress-lined road to Monticchiello — the postcard image of Tuscany.

Siena

Cooking class with a Senese nonna

Pici hand-rolled one by one, pappardelle al cinghiale, panforte, the long lunch.

Siena

Brunello tasting at Biondi-Santi or Casanova di Neri

Forty-five minutes south to Montalcino. The Brunello producers that defined the style — Biondi-Santi, Casanova di Neri, Soldera, Argiano.
