About This Villa

Villa Tullia sits on the edge of Cortona, recently and beautifully restored to a contemporary style, with wide windows that take in the surrounding countryside from every room. The villa is a three-storey main house plus a separate cottage; together they house twelve guests across six bedrooms and five bathrooms. Cortona's medieval centre is a fifteen-minute walk down the lane — rare for a villa this far into the country.

The wow features are the bathrooms: three with Jacuzzi tubs, one with a private steam room, all with contemporary finishes and towel heaters. Outside there's a panoramic infinity-edge pool, a large terrace with comfortable seating for long lunches, a BBQ, and views across the Valdichiana toward Arezzo. The interior reads as a peaceful, light-toned modern villa — understated rather than themed.

Cortona

Sunset on the Palazzo Comunale steps

The piazza fills slowly between six and seven. A glass of wine from the café, a half-hour of people-watching, and the warmest light of the day on the bell tower above.

Cortona

Cortona Syrah tasting at a family estate

A morning at a small producer below the town — most of them still under-the-radar despite making excellent Cortona DOC Syrah. Cellar tour, four wines, lunch.

Cortona

Cooking class with a Cortonese nonna

Hand-rolled pici, fresh ricotta gnudi, a Chianina ragù, and the tiramisu that everyone fights over. Half a day, ending with the meal.

Cortona

A morning at the Etruscan museum

The Museo dell'Accademia Etrusca holds the Tabula Cortonensis — one of the longest Etruscan inscriptions ever found. Smaller than the great museums and far more personal.

Cortona

Lake Trasimeno boat day

Twenty minutes by car. A private boat across to Isola Maggiore for a long lunch of fresh perch and a swim in clear water.

Cortona

The Saturday market in Camucia

Down on the plain, just below Cortona. Cheeses, salumi, vegetables, and the cookware everyone in Tuscany seems to own. The shopping morning of the trip.
