Villa Splendora is a south-facing 19th-century villa on the eastern shore of Lake Como, just below the village of Torno. Eleven hundred and twenty-five square metres of building across two structures — the grand main villa at the top of the property, and an independent guest house at the water's edge — connected by a private glass elevator carved into the cliff that drops forty vertical metres down the terraced gardens. The position faces Moltrasio on the opposite shore and catches some of the most spectacular sunsets on the lake.
Inside the main villa, the interiors are classic Lake Como: high ceilings, arched windows, parquet floors, wrought-iron details. The expansive living room has picture windows and a fireplace, the dining area seats ten at one table and six at another, and the contemporary kitchen opens onto the panoramic terrace (which itself seats fourteen to sixteen al fresco).
Seven en-suite bedrooms in the main villa (five on the first floor, two on the second), plus two more in the independent shore house — a Master Queen on the ground floor and a kid-suitable Twin up a small spiral staircase. All bedrooms have air conditioning; many of the upstairs rooms have private or shared balconies over the lake.
Outdoors: a heated infinity pool (12 × 3.3–5 m, depth 1.4–2 m), an outdoor Jacuzzi on a terrace below for up to four with its own shower and bathroom, sculptural walkways along the water, and a private dock with mooring. A separate wellness building holds the gym (Technogym treadmill, bike, elliptical, weights), a 20-foot-ceilinged painting/yoga room with an arched lake-view window, a sauna and a Turkish bath. A game room with ping-pong and pool table, two stand-up paddles with life jackets, and a four-car private garage with EV chargers complete the property.
A private path with the villa's own waterfall leads from the estate directly into Torno's piazza — a 15-minute ferry from Como brings you to the village dock, and a private water taxi can be called to the villa's own mooring for transfers to the lake's best restaurants.

Lake Como
The most cinematic of the lake's villas, reachable only by water. The gardens, the loggia, the rooms exactly as they were when the last owner left them.

Mistral at Villa d'Este on the water for the Michelin night out. Il Gatto Nero in Cernobbio above the lake (long the favourite of George Clooney and most of his neighbours) for the more local one.

Botanical gardens that have been the standard for two hundred years. Azaleas in May, lemons in June, oleanders in July.

Como has been Europe's silk capital since the 1500s. A morning workshop at a family silk house — printing, weaving, or scarves — at one of the producers our concierge knows.
