Villa Camilla is a 19th-century villa on the western shore of Lake Como, in San Siro — halfway up the lake, facing southeast, with one of the few vantage points where the three arms of Lake Como are all in view. The interior runs to 7,000 square feet across four floors, with another 1,500 square feet of covered terraces. Recently restored, the villa keeps its polished floors, polychrome marble fireplaces, crystal chandeliers and a sweeping wooden staircase.
Eight en-suite bedrooms, each painted a different colour: yellow, pink, two greens, apricot, blue-green, light blue and orange-gold. King beds are convertible to twins, so the layout flexes for couples or singles in any combination. Three bedrooms on the first floor (two with terraces and lake views), two on the second, three on the third. For larger groups, an accessible ground-floor bedroom and a separate annex are available on request at no extra charge.
Outdoors: five acres of mature park (ancient sequoias, cedars, oaks, magnolias, palms), a heated swimming pool (10 × 6 m), a tennis court, a children's playground with a slide and swings, several shaded grass terraces for al fresco dining and lounging. A private gate and dock for mooring a rental boat sit just across the lake road from the villa's sweeping lawns.
The villa is ideal for large groups, weddings, family reunions and groups of friends. A daily chef cooks dinner from a rotating menu (cost of food extra), and a welcome buffet dinner is served on arrival. Bicycle rentals, motorboat hire, water-skiing and a pitch-and-putt are available ten minutes away in Menaggio; the ferry from Menaggio across to Bellagio takes thirty minutes.
The road runs along the shore here, so the villa sits just across the road from the lake. A private gate and sweeping lawns lead from the lake road up to the villa, and the dock with its candy-striped mooring poles is on the water side of the road.

A morning on a 1960s mahogany Riva or a modern Cantiere replica. Coffee on the Tremezzo lakefront, a stop at Villa del Balbianello, lunch at La Punta in Bellagio, swim stops between.

The most cinematic of the lake's villas, reachable only by water. The gardens, the loggia, the rooms exactly as they were when the last owner left them.

Mistral at Villa d'Este on the water for the Michelin night out. Il Gatto Nero in Cernobbio above the lake (long the favourite of George Clooney and most of his neighbours) for the more local one.

Botanical gardens that have been the standard for two hundred years. Azaleas in May, lemons in June, oleanders in July.

Como has been Europe's silk capital since the 1500s. A morning workshop at a family silk house — printing, weaving, or scarves — at one of the producers our concierge knows.
